Mantere Farm – Caring for the Land Since 1713

Mantere Farm is an organic farm located in Lempäälä, in the Pirkanmaa region of Finland. The farm is run by Niina Mayer together with her children, Anna and Aatos. Niina is trained as an agronomist and a home economics teacher, and she has managed the farm since 2015. Niina’s family has lived at Mantere Farm continuously since 1713.

Organic cattle farming and direct selling

Mantere Farm practiced dairy production until 2015, when it transitioned to suckler cow production. The farm raises Eastern Finncattle (kyyttö) and Highland cattle. Eastern Finncattle is a native Finnish breed that is raised exclusively in Finland. Globally, only about 2,000 individuals of this breed remain. The cattle are fed hay and silage produced on the farm, supplemented with minerals.

Mantere Farm consists of 150 hectares of arable land and approximately 100 head of cattle. The entire arable area is used exclusively for grass production, which serves as feed and pasture for the cattle. Mantere Farm has been certified organic since 2010. Both the fields and the animals are included in organic certification.

Meat produced at Mantere Farm is sold directly to consumers and local restaurants through the farm shop and online store.

Holistic Management at Mantere Farm

Holistic Management is a regenerative agriculture approach that guides how Mantere Farm plans its farming as a whole, taking into account soil, vegetation, animals, people, and long-term viability. At Mantere, it is especially reflected in carefully planned grazing: cattle graze from spring to late autumn and have year-round access outdoors, allowing them to live in a species-appropriate way while supporting soil health and biodiversity. Grazing rotation gives plants time to recover, maintains healthy soil structure, and helps preserve traditional meadows and shoreline pastures. In winter, bale grazing is used to keep animals moving freely on pasture while naturally improving soil fertility and nutrient cycles, ensuring that the farm remains resilient, productive, and ecologically balanced over time.

Open Farm Days & Farm Visits

Mantere Farm hosts Open Farm Days during the summer, offering visitors the opportunity to meet grazing cattle, explore the farm, enjoy local food, and shop at the farm store. Events include a café, grill serving farm-produced beef, and occasionally other local producers.

Farm visits are also available year-round for groups interested in organic beef production, regenerative farming, and everyday farm life. Visits can be tailored to the group and may include refreshments or meals.
